Irwin, Jackson & Wang, Certified Public AccountantsOur People

Daniel J Irwin, CPA
Principal

The complex nature of the tax laws keeps the work challenging but my favorite part of the work is the interesting people I get to know.  Everyone is a story... and I love the stories!

A native of Fresno, Daniel served in the Navy after high school and returned to complete a Bachelor of Science degree from CSU Fresno in 1975.

In 1979, Daniel joined with Steven Jackson to form a CPA firm that focused on serving small businesses and their owners.  Over time the focus of Daniel’s practice became medical and dental practices and the physicians and dentists who own them.

Daniel is married to his wife of 40+ years, has 2 grown children, and when time allows he enjoys sailing and sail boat racing.

Steven L Jackson, CPA
Principal

Like Hannibal Hayes from the “A” team, I love it when a plan comes together.    I get a great deal of satisfaction when I work through a year end planning with a customer to accomplish a particular outcome, and it turns out the way we planned.”

Steven is a native of Fresno and graduated from Fresno High School.  He joined the United State Air Force and served during the Vietnam Conflict.  After honorable discharge from the Air Force, he completed his education graduating summa cum laude from California State University, Fresno, in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

He began his accounting career with a growing and dynamic local CPA firm.  He gained experience in accounting, auditing and taxation and received his license as a Certified Public Accountant.  After a couple of years, an opportunity presented itself to work in a controller position with a local agricultural company.  After a few years in private industry, Steven missed public accounting and felt he wasn’t growing professionally.

In 1979 Steven joined with Daniel Irwin to form a new local CPA firm that has become Irwin, Jackson & Wang.

Over the years Steven has gained industry experience in farming, medical professional, construction and property development and maintenance.

Steven is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public accountants and the Fresno Estate Planning Council.  He is also a lifetime member in the National Rifle Association.

He is married and has twin boys, who are now young men with their own careers.  His personal interests include travel, exercise and the shooting sports.

Cheng-Yi (Allen) Wang , MBA, CPA
Principal

The thing I like best about what I do is the way we help our customers achieve their goals in ways that fit in with the way they live.”

After graduating from National Central University in Taiwan with a bachelor of Science degree in business administration, Cheng-Yi (Allen) Wang went to work in the shipping industry based in Taiwan.

In 1998 he moved to the United States to continue his education at the CSU Fresno Craig School of Business which led to a Masters of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in finance in 2000.

While studying at CSU Fresno he began working for the firm.   After graduating he stayed and became an important part of the team, eventually becoming  a principal in 2008.

His role in the company is customer service primarily to medical and dental groups and high income individuals.

When not working he enjoys his wife, his two children, and real estate investments.

Patti L Robbins, CPA

We work as a TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More).  This helps us maintain quality and consistency”

I really like the relationship of trust I develop working closely with customers helping them keep their records accurate and current.”

A native of Oregon, Patti Robbins graduated from Oregon State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Financial Planning and Control with an emphasis in Accounting.

After graduating Patti moved to Fresno to take a job in a local CPA firm.  By the time she joined the firm she was already skilled in tax compliance for corporations, partnerships (including LLC’s), trusts, estates and individuals.  She also compiles and reviews financial statements for many of our most complex customers in farming and construction.

Patti Robbins has been a CPA since 1989 and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Patti is married and has two children.  When not working she actively supports Peoples Church with her time and talents.

In 1964 Carole Plummer started her public accounting career with a local Fresno CPA firm shortly after graduating form Fresno City College with an Associate of Arts degree.

After 10 years she took off some time to start a family but continued to work in private industry as a part time bookkeeper.  In September 1987 she returned to public accounting for multiple companies when she joined the firm.

Carole’s responsibilities include monthly and quarterly bookkeeping for multiple customers, preparation of payroll tax returns, sales tax returns and business property tax returns, and any other unusual general business filing that comes across her desk.

When not working, Carole enjoys time with her husband of 42 years, children and especially her grandchildren.

Sam Cox-Pinkley
Staff accountant

I really enjoy helping people solve their tax issues and make decisions about which way to go financially.”

He joined the firm as a staff accountant shortly after graduation and is currently working through the requirements to be a licensed CPA.

When not working Sam is an avid baseball player and loves golf.

Phaythoune D. Thounsouk
Administrative assistant

I like that we have systemized most of the every day tasks.   Everything we do here has a defined process which allows us to track, review and check off what was done from start to finish.

But what I like best is greeting and meeting customers as they come through the door or call.   It is a joy to see their surprise at being greeted by name…especially the people who don’t come in often.”

Phaythoune graduated from Fresno High school in 1998 having completed the schools’ Marketing Academy.  After high school she attended Fresno City College and worked full time in retail.

Phaythoune joined the firm in 2000 as a payroll specialist and is currently the firms administrative assistant and Notary Public.

When not working, Phaythoune enjoys time with family and friends.

Our History

Irwin, Jackson & Wang, Certified Public Accountants started in 1979 when Daniel Irwin and Steven Jackson had an entrepreneurial seizure.  They decided, along with another young CPA, that they should have their own company to provide tax, audit and accounting services to other small businesses in the central valley of California.

The firm grew slowly until 1983 when computer bookkeeping with a “mini” computer became popular and economical.  The practice grew to over 20 staff by 1986.  Sadly it had grown to a point where the owners missed the direct customer contact and friendship with the individual customers.

In 1990 the company was downsized by shedding auditing and the large bookkeeping practice.  Daniel and Steven found the smaller more intimate practice more to their liking and have grown consistently since then.

Today the firm’s focus is on small businesses and professionals and emphasizes accounting solutions that are custom fit to each customer’s life.
